Growing up, I kept active playing sports and being involved in various activities, which is where most of my “working out” came from. Going to college, like it does for most of us, changed that lifestyle some. I wasn’t playing sports and therefore wasn’t “working out”. After college, I decided that I needed to get active and in better shape, so knowing very little about how to do so, I started running. Over the next few years, I ran several 5k’s, 10k’s and 1/2 marathons, while also having a membership at a traditional gym where I mainly took group fitness classes. I really enjoyed the group classes and I had some interest in the machines and weight area. I would occasionally pick up a dumbbell, but the weight area was so intimidating— I alway felt lost and never felt like I knew what I was doing!!
When I discovered CrossFit in December 2013, all of this changed for me. It had everything I was looking for to “work out”. A group class, with pre-designed workouts, and familiar faces in each class. Everyday, when I came to the gym, I knew what I was getting into and what the work out would be. There was a plan and there was also sense of community that kept me coming back. I was getting in shape and getting stronger and most importantly, gaining confidence and knowledge of what I was doing with all of those weights! Finally, I had found a way to love working out and being healthy!
